Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Ethics Statement

PASTECH (Proceedings of Automotive Science and Technology) is a peer-reviewed proceedings series publishing conference/symposium papers in automotive engineering and mobility technologies. PASTECH is published by the Automotive Engineers Association of Turkey (Türkiye Otomotiv Mühendisleri Derneği).

PASTECH is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics and applies a zero-tolerance approach to misconduct, including plagiarism, redundant publication, data fabrication/falsification, inappropriate authorship, and peer-review malpractice. Ethical assessments are conducted in line with internationally recognized best practices and publication ethics guidance.

1) Authors

Authors are expected to comply with the following:

Originality and integrity

  • Submissions must be original, not previously published, and not under review elsewhere.

  • Data, methods, and results must be reported honestly; fabrication, falsification, and improper image manipulation are not acceptable.

  • Where appropriate, sufficient methodological detail should be provided to support reproducibility.

Plagiarism and redundant publication

  • Text, ideas, figures, tables, or data from others must not be used without proper citation.

  • Self-plagiarism and redundant publication without transparent disclosure are not acceptable.

  • Prior versions (e.g., thesis, report, extended abstract) must be disclosed when relevant (subject to editorial assessment).

Authorship and contributorship

  • Authorship must reflect substantial contributions to the study.

  • Minor contributors should be acknowledged.

  • The author list/order must be agreed by all authors before submission; changes require editorial review and justification.

Ethics approvals and safety

  • Studies involving humans, personal data, surveys/experiments, etc. must obtain required approvals/permissions and state them in the manuscript.

  • Animal studies must comply with relevant ethical requirements and regulations.

  • Any unusual hazards (materials, procedures, equipment) must be clearly described.

Conflicts of interest and funding

  • All competing interests and all funding/support must be transparently disclosed.

Citation ethics

  • Citations must be relevant and justified; citation manipulation is unacceptable.

Use of generative AI

  • If generative AI tools are used (e.g., language editing), authors must ensure human oversight and remain fully accountable for accuracy, originality, and compliance.

  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

2) Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Be fair and confidential: Provide objective reviews; do not share manuscripts or use them for personal advantage.

  • Declare conflicts of interest: Decline or recuse themselves when conflicts exist.

  • Provide constructive feedback: Base comments on scientific merit and clarity.

  • Avoid improper citation requests: Do not request unnecessary or self-serving citations.

  • Report concerns: Notify the editorial team of suspected misconduct (plagiarism, data issues, ethical concerns).

3) Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • Fair editorial decisions: Decisions based on quality, originality, and methodological rigor—free from discrimination or bias.

  • Confidential handling: Maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial and review process.

  • Managing conflicts of interest: Reassign manuscripts when an editor has a conflict.

  • Ethical oversight: Initiate checks and actions (clarifications, investigations, corrections, retractions) when needed.

  • Transparency: Publish corrections, retractions, or editorial notes where appropriate.

4) Publisher

The publisher commits to:

  • Maintaining policies and procedures to prevent and address misconduct,

  • Safeguarding the integrity of editorial and peer-review processes,

  • Protecting the reliability of the scholarly record by issuing corrections, retractions, or editorial statements when necessary,

  • Ensuring ethical, transparent, and sustainable publishing practices.
